A “hydrating” toner
In most formulas this is scented water with a minimal share of actives. Hydration comes from serum and cream; a toner more often creates the feeling of a ritual than the effect of one.
A scrub with coarse abrasive particles
Mechanical exfoliation leaves micro-damage invisible to the eye but real for the barrier. Acids and enzymes do the same job more gently and more precisely.
A multi-step “glow set”
Several essences in a row are often overlapping formulas with similar compositions, bundled into a system because bundles sell.
Fewer products, chosen for your own skin, is usually more honest than a full shelf.
